My AKC Yorkshire Terrier female is only 2 pounds and me and my husband have been debating on whether or not we should breed her. We are looking to see if there are any small AKC Yorkshire Terriers out there, possibly between 1 and 3 pounds. Also, I am wondering if she is too small to breed. We have a 4 pound Yorkshire Terrier male that has been neutered, but he jumps on her every time she is in heat and she seems to handle his weight. Any comments?

I would highly recommend that you NOT breed a 2# dog of any breed. Its not whether she had handle him while they are in the process of breeding, but whether she can carry the puppies inside her of a bigger dog and whether she can whelp the pups. Your male should always be smaller, NEVER bigger. But if you do decide to breed her, I would almost bet you will need a c-section for her and check with your vet for pricing. The hospital I work for charges 800.00 and up for c-sections. Have you ever had her liver checked to see that it is ok since she is so little. I have had yorkies for 20 years and a lot of the time the tiny ones have liver issues. Goodluck in your decision, and please keep in mind, many tiny dogs die during whelping. They just aren't meant for breeding.
